Kathy is a type-one diabetic who works as a nurse at Saint Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, New Jersey.
“I wasn’t worried about not getting a job again cuz like, I know I would get a job cuz I have a lot of experience, I was more worried about my fellow nurses that were gonna stay there, how could I leave them?…but I was definitely nervous for myself and for my family because I didn’t know, and if something happened to me, then what happens to my family?”
Interview highlight:
Kathy: I’m a type one diabetic for the last 34 years, so, you know, hearing all of this, you know, diabetics, higher chance of being sick, that put a lot of stress on me then going into those situations, god forbid that I caught it, then what am I going to do?
Interviewer: So you didn’t even consider for a second, like, should I quit? Did you feel pressure, like, if I did quit I wouldn’t get a job again?
Kathy: I wasn’t worried about not getting a job again ’cause like, I know I would get a job, ’cause I have a lot of experience, I was more worried about my fellow nurses that were gonna stay there, how could I leave them? Like, the ones that I work with, how could I leave those people, you know, like, ‘oh, it’s only important for me?’ you know? So, in that aspect, I couldn’t do it, but I was definitely nervous for myself and for my family because I didn’t know, and if something happened to me, then what happens to my family?
